RVS Technology® test in EU research program Oil-Free Powertrain WP5

RVS took part in 2004 to this EU-funded research program in Munich, Germany. Please read the highlights from the results and the Official Final Report from June 2004 below:

The results are shown in Figure 6: The uncoated discs failed within the first 7 minutes, the discs run with the RVS® Technology substance failed after ca.15 minutes. Thus the lifetime of these discs was more than double as high as the lifetime of the uncoated discs (page 46).

After the test traces of silicum could be detected on the surface. The roughness also decreased from Ra = 0.2 µm before the test to Ra = 0.05 µm after the test (page 57). The original grinding texture perpendicular to the circumferential speed wasn't visible anymore.

The conclusion from these tests with the RVS Technology substance is, that at a coating building run at boundary lubrication has a positive impact on the life-time under dry lubrication. The disc roughness decreased and traces of silicium could be detected after this coating building run. However, it was not possible to detect a coating in a metallographic section of the disc surface (page 57).

Factors that might affect detection of the coating:

  • RVS modificates the surface structure and integrates with the friction surface metal thus no clear borderline between the coating and base metal can be detected
  • The triboceramic nanocoating doesn't cover the whole friction surface equally and totally. The ceramic structure is produced where the real contacts take place.
  • The coating film can be and usually is very thin. Perhaps the capacity of measurement device was limited in terms of properties and accuracy.
  • X-Ray or Atom Force microscope pictures taken of a grinded edge chipped from the RVS treated part might be more appropriate for the purpose.

Power Output & Blow-by test of an Audi A6 1.9TDI in Denmark

The owner: "It is as if the engine had gone through another chip tuning." The power output increased by 18.6 HP (15.3%) and the Torque by 20.6 Nm (7,3 %). The average blow-by decreased by 2-4% and the fuel consumption by 2-3 %.

The car was/is a previous Taxi that had clocked 400,000 km (250,000 miles) and had been chip tuned 1,5 years ago. The engine had shown a slow but unavoidable power loss before the RVS treatment.

Translation of a test report on using the RVS Technology® in marine applications

CONCLUSIONS

  1. Laboratory studies on the effect of adding the RVS compound in engine and aviation oil on tribotechnical properties of friction pair specimens (steel – cast iron, steel – bronze, cast iron – cast iron) with AYe-5 and 77MT-1 friction machines have been carried out.
  2. The efficiency of using the RVS compound for decreasing the friction parameters and speeding up the running-in of friction parts of machines and mechanisms (shaft – bearing shell, bushing – shaft, cylinder – piston ring) has been determined.
  3. It is found out that, when the wear velocity stabilises, adding the RVS compound in the amount of 0.2 percent of the oil volume reduces the friction coefficient by 50 to 60 percent and the temperature on friction surfaces.
  4. On basis of the results, the recommendations for applying the RVS Technology in marine and river transport have been given.

The efficiency of RVS Technology products was tested in an aircraft engine in the Czech Republic in September 2005.

The observed results of the RVS Technology treatment:

1. The metallic engine noise disappeared in about 30 min after the RVS treatment.

2. The engine starts now without manual handwork and extra "start-gasoline".

3. The engine doesn't produce smoke at the start-up anymore.

4. The "Metal Gear" sounds of the gearbox softened within 16 hours after the treatment.

5. The oil temperature dropped by 10% within the 22-hour period .

My father didn’t believe in the capacity of the stuff and said “Let the whole gadget crack
up, we’ve got the replacement device there”. The gadget has still not cracked up!
